Guide of Educational Improvement Strategies

It is universally agreed that education occupies a central position in the development of societies, and that political strategies of various sizes, work plans, tools and other actions are formed around it, such as this guide for professionals from local youth policies.

This guide of 2016 was prepared by the General Directorate of Youth of the Government of Catalonia (Spain) with the collaboration of a working group composed of twenty professionals in the field of education and youth from several institutions.

It is a tool of guidance and support for youth professionals, entities and other professionals who want to influence the educational career of young people, as the main objective of this tool is to create strategies to improve educational policies.

In the local context, and after analysing the reality facing youth, we can see in more detail how educational deficits affect young people's future, and how we can reverse such a situation thanks to projects, educational improvement strategies, and through supporting their educational career.

When we talk about an educational path, we are referring to those steps followed until a person reaches their highest level of education, that is to say, the educational stages that a young person has taken, consecutively or not, until they finish the training.

Educational paths tend to include the educational stages set out in the formal education system: compulsory education, post-compulsory education and higher education.

Educational transitions are those moments when students finish an educational stage and have to decide about their future: to continue studying or not, and what to study in case there are several options. The work of support and guidance on educational transitions are very important, due to the implications that they may have on the choices or the future of young people.

Therefore, achieving success in the educational career of young people is the main focus of this guide.

Wikibook: This is the version of Wikibooks of the guide of educational improvement strategies. In this version there are thirty five action proposals that can be kept up to date through the contributions of professionals. This format also includes in each of the 35 proposals a section of experiences and resources.
