A quality framework for learning mobility in the youth field

The European Platform for Learning Mobility (EPLM) has released a publication of 22 principles that will help people to deliver high quality mobility projects. The publication summarises learning mobility as “transnational mobility undertaken for a period of time, consciously organised for educational purposes or to acquire new competences”. Here, non-formal learning is highlighted with links to informal learning as well as formal education.

The 22 principles vary from project’s learning objectives to organisers responsibilities. In the principles, young people are encouraged to a more active citizenship, intercultural learning and dialogue. For example secure suitable conditions and appropriate environments for all participants must be taken into account. Also the role of organisers is very important so they have to be properly prepared and trained.

The publication introduces different examples of learning mobility projects, such as youth exchange, work camps and vocational apprenticeships.  These projects are examples of how youth learning mobility can be increased and strengthened in youth work.
