Seminar on "Countering violent extremism and youth radicalisation"
Τhe Youth Board of Cyprus, the Council of Europe Partial Agreement on Youth Mobility Through the Youth Card and the European Youth Card Association (EYCA) organised a seminar on "Countering violent extremism and youth radicalisation: using the European Youth Card to promote peaceful communities", from 30 to 31 January 2017, in Nicosia, Cyprus.
The event was organised as part of Cyprus’ chairmanship of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, and its objective was to generate constructive ideas to counter the phenomenon of extremism and radicalisation among young people, which could ultimately lead to terrorism.
The seminar aimed to explore ways in which youth card systems could assist governments in providing young people with services and access to activities that would help to promote peaceful communities; to see how these peaceful communities could be an enabling factor/context in the longer-term prevention of young people’s radicalisation; and with the aims above, to share and analyse examples of good practices from EYCA member organisations.
