what is the European Youth Information Day?
On 17 April, ERYICA, together with its members, celebrates the European Youth Information Day and ERYICA's birthday across Europe.
This special occasion serves to raise awareness of young people's right to access full and reliable information, as well as to recognise the work of youth information workers.
EYID 2024 - #WalktheTalk It’s not the talk but the walk that matters most.
In 2024, around 4 billion people - almost half the world’s population - are expected to vote in 76 countries. This year marks the height of democracy, with major elections in influential powers such as the United States, India, Russia, the European Union, Indonesia, Mexico or Taiwan. An epicentre of this global democracy will be the European elections from 6 to 9 June, when 400 million citizens will be called to the polls. These elections are accompanied by other national and regional polls in 37 European countries.
By focusing on democracy this year, we aim to inspire young people to understand their essential role in collective decision-making. The European Youth Information Day becomes an opportunity to empower future generations, encourage critical thinking and celebrate the diversity of voices that help shape our shared present and future. By embracing democracy as a driving force, we cultivate an informed and engaged generation ready to exercise their democratic power with confidence and responsibility.
By choosing this theme, we hope to inspire young people to engage actively in democratic dialogue, make informed decisions and become enlightened and responsible citizens. The diversity of young people’s views and experiences is an invaluable asset to our society. By celebrating democracy, we are celebrating the ability of young people to positively influence their environment and actively participate in building strong and vibrant communities.
