Democracy here, Democracy now.

2021

Democracy here, Democracy now.

In November, ERYICA was invited to participate in the Inception Seminar organised by the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.  Around 35 youth leaders and representatives of youth organisations gathered to work on the campaign "Youth for democracy for youth" that will run from March to December 2022 and will mark the 50th anniversary of the youth sector of the Council of Europe.

Decided by the Joint Council on Youth in October 2021, the campaign aims to increase young people’s role in the process of revitalising participatory democracy in the Council of Europe and restore mutual trust between young people and democratic institutions and processes. It will focus on three key themes: revitalising democracy, meaningful youth participation and digitalisation.

The provisional motto of the campaign – DEMOCRACY HERE. DEMOCRACY NOW – reflects its broad social and geographical scope (HERE = anywhere/everywhere) and its open time frame (NOW = anytime). The main event of the campaign should be a youth event/festival to be held in Strasbourg from 27 June to 2 July.

The Council of Europe invites youth organisations and institutions on the local, national and international levels to start preparing activities to be included in the campaign programme. The ERYICA Secretariat will follow the campaign closely and support the CoE’s efforts by designing complementary materials and initiatives that will be shared with the network.
More information will come soon. Meanwhile, you can have a look at the campaign concept note adopted by the Joint Council on Youth.
