Estonian youth newspaper “Noorte Ekspress”

makes youth info services visible

Since 2021, the Estonian youth information service Teeviit has published information for young people via the newspaper “Noorte Ekspress”. In November 2022, the last issue was published, which was put together by young people themselves - a team of youth information volunteers of the Teeviit website. It is the first youth information newspaper in Estonia, which is 100% created by young people.

The action aims to ensure the availability of high-quality and reliable information for those young people who have not reached youth information online but want to get information in paper form. An additional goal was to allow young people to create youth information and contribute to its dissemination. The content is created by young people and experts. A good addition is a great collection of experiences and personal stories from young people.

November issue focused on youth work opportunities, creativity, and self-development. The youth team was led by a volunteer of the Teeviit youth information portal, whose task was to be the editor-in-chief of Noorte Ekspress and compile all the articles. The entire content of Noorte Ekspress was created by young people- starting with the collection of story ideas, searching for personalities, coming up with questions, conducting interviews, putting the stories together, involving experts, communicating with the publication's partner, and creating the overall picture of the page.

Youth workers, youth information workers, and teachers can use Noorte Ekspress publications to share information with young people on a specific topic or to search for information. It is a helpful and reliable tool for working with young people.

Noorte Ekspress was published six times between 2021 and 2022 and was designed in cooperation with young people. The main subject areas covered in the paper are youth work, media and information literacy, career guidance, money wisdom, starting an independent life, mental health, sexuality, relationships, environment, and safety. Noorte Ekspress was published as a supplement to the media publication Eesti Ekspress, and with every issue, 24,500 copies were printed. In addition, nearly 2,000 additional copies were sent directly to schools and youth centres in Estonia.
