UNESCO - Sharing Information & Countering Disinformation on COVID-19

UNESCO has a page dedicated to the COVID-19 pandemic, which includes resources, news, good practices and research related to this topic. The UNESCO wishes to highlight that freedom of expression, access to information - notably on public health - and quality news coverage are essential to face the unprecedented crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.

More than ever, the world needs professional journalism and reliable information to adapt its response to the spread of COVID-19, organise itself, learn from other countries’ experiences and counter the increase of rumours and disinformation.

In particular, UNESCO promotes Media and Information Literacy (MIL) resources to counter the spread of disinformation, as well as the use of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence in response to the crisis.

ERYICA participated in a webinar to discuss the following: What do young people do to combat the #COVID19 "disinfodemic"? The UNESCO-GAPMIL webinar included input from Eva Reina, Director of the European Youth Information and Counselling Agency, Mohammed Foboi & Beatrice Bonami, GAPMIL Youth Ambassadors for Africa and Latin America and the Caribbean.

You can check some examples from the ERYICA network in the GAPMIL section.
