Young LGBTQ+ People Marching in Dublin Pride

Youth Work Ireland and Belong To will host a celebratory Pride Breakfast event on the morning of Dublin Pride on Saturday, June 25th. This will be the 5th year both organisations have come together to host this unique and exciting event. After two years apart due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are looking forward to getting back together to march for equality and inclusion and to promote the value and impact of youth work in supporting and advocating for young LGBTQ+.

Youth Work Ireland and Belong To are the largest providers of LGBTQ+ supports and services to young LGBTQ+ people across Ireland. Through our services, we address issues and concerns affecting LGBTQ+ young people and advocate with and on their behalf. We also work with other community groups, organisations and schools to increase awareness about homophobic bullying and discrimination and provide information to support young LGBTQ+ people.

Our event on the morning of Dublin Pride is a highlight for both organisations, and we are so excited to come back together again after two years apart to celebrate our youth groups and to raise awareness of the need to continue to create and strive for an inclusive and safe world for all. Young Ukrainian LGBTQ+ people who have recently travelled to Ireland to escape the war will also be attending; for some, this will be their first Pride march.

This year we will welcome over 600 young people from our LGBTQ+ and ally groups to Dublin to have breakfast, get Pride ready and march together as the biggest youth group in Pride Dublin under the banner ‘Empowering LGBTQ+ Youth’. The event will be colourful, energetic, fun, life-changing for some, and most importantly, a safe space for young people from our LGBTQ+ youth groups to celebrate their identity in a safe and accepting environment.
