Everyday life in the city of Nicosia: from the Middle Ages to modern times

The Youth Information Center of Nicosia, in collaboration with Home for Cooperation, organised a guided bicommunal cycling tour entitled “The everyday life in Nicosia: from Middle Ages to Today.”

The cycling tour was a ride in both spaces and in time, which gave participants the chance to observe the timeless material remains of the Medieval part of Nicosia, as well as the everyday life of the people now inhabiting the old part of the city.

The cycling tour aimed to bring together, young people from both communities, Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot, in discovering the history of the city through its buildings, neighbourhoods and landmarks that have marked the history of the town. At the same time, it aimed to raise awareness of the city’s multicultural character.

The bicyclers had the opportunity to discover how do the monuments fit into the daily lives of people living in the walled city of Nicosia and realise how the walled city transformed and evolved from the Middle Ages to nowadays, and to observe how these developments affected people's daily lives.

The cycling tour was organised in the context of the European Sports Week 2020, which took place on 21-30 September 2020.
