supporting young people in Scotland to embrace international experiences

Young Scot recently partnered with the Scottish Government and British Council Scotland to deliver 'GlobeScotters' – a campaign encouraging young people to embrace the international experiences available to them.

This campaign is a direct response to COVID-19. It aims to support young people in Scotland to connect with international opportunities whilst helping them to maintain a global outlook. GlobeScotters also involves a survey – designed to find out more about young people's opinions on international education, experiences and what COVID-19 has meant to international opportunities.

As part of the campaign, we ran a digital conversation. During the event, we brought together young people from Scotland, Zambia, Pakistan, Greece, Slovenia, Malta, Bulgaria, Wales, Andorra, Spain, Luxemburg and Poland – who discussed their lives and what international experiences mean for them. Ms Jenny Gilruth MSP, Minister for Europe and International Development, welcomed the young people to the event and expressed her support for events such as GlobeScotters that bring young people from different cultures and backgrounds together.

The results from both the conversation event and survey will influence the work of British Council Scotland and the Scottish Government. Here at Young Scot, we will also use this insight to deliver a digital information campaign in 2021 – sharing information about international opportunities and ways to maintain critical global connections.

International opportunities, no matter whether they are face-to-face or digital, open up doors to young people. At Young Scot, we will continue to work hard to support young people to broaden their horizons and support them to be citizens of the world.
