Month of Gaming and Electronic Sports

The Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ, IP), within the scope of the Safer Internet Centre, celebrated in November the «Month of Gaming and E-Sports». For the occasion, IPDJ organised a cycle of webinars in collaboration with the Grow uP E-Sports Youth Association and FEPODELE (Portuguese Federation of E-Sports) and with the participation of the IPDJ Lisbon Youth Center.

This cycle of webinars addressed themes related to gaming and e-sports, such as new vocations and professions in the world of E-sports, the benefits and risks of gaming, ethics and women in e-sports and others, with the participation of young people and specialists in this area.

The webinars were delivered by the young Pedro Barbosa - European representative on the IESF Players Commission, Telmo Silva - President and Founder of the Grow uP E-Sports Association, Joana Pinto - CEO of the Grow uP eSports Association and by Maria João Andrade, Clinical Psychologist, GASPD Coordinator at FEPODELE.

50 to 70 people attended the six sessions, which aroused a lot of interest and dialogue with the participants.

It is essential to clarify certain prejudices and ideas that persist about e-sports and gaming, such as the association of this activity with addiction and psychologic problems or the spread of violent behaviour, providing clear and correct information about this activity that occupies and interests so many young people and also adults.

An event on Facebook was created and can be accessed through this link: https://www.facebook.com/events/413579192990319/
