New Findings: Public Education Funding Drops Across the EU

The European Commission has released a new report revealing a significant drop in public education spending across the EU since before the pandemic. Despite increased competition for public funds, the report emphasises that investing in education remains essential to achieving our social and economic goals.

The report compares public expenditure in education with other sectors, such as social protection, healthcare, and economic affairs. It highlights that education investments have faced stronger competition and received a lower share of public expenditure between 2019 and 2022.

The report identifies opportunities for quality investment in education through the Recovery and Resilience Facility, Cohesion Policy funding, and the new EU economic governance framework. It stresses the importance of directing these funds towards initiatives that directly support youth, ensuring they receive the education and resources needed to succeed. Effective investment is crucial to provide young people with the skills and knowledge they need to thrive in a rapidly changing world.
