What OECD does in the field of youth

OECD is conforming itself as an important actor in the field of youth. In fact, the Trade Union Advisory Committee to the OECD (TUAC) created a Youth Network in May 2021 to deal with the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on young people. In October, the Youth Network, composed of young union activists, economists, and coordinators, organised a public webinar and released a statement to the OECD Ministerial Council Meeting. The statement addresses the medium and long-term challenges by promoting the transition to net-zero to help build a green future and making the future more inclusive by promoting a digital transformation and creating opportunities for all.

Moreover, the OECD has renewed in 2021 its Youth Action Plan in order to place young people’s concerns at the centre of the recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. In this framework, a panel of young people between 18 and 30 years old (the Youth Advisory Board) has been created as part of the campaign “I am the future of work”.

ERYICA Secretariat participated in the opening of the OECD Youth Week, a series of discussions on young people in the post-covid scenario. Concretely, the Secretariat followed the high-level opening session, “Prepared for the future?”, and “Youth and Democracy in Times of crisis”. The most important topics discussed were youth employment in the post-pandemic and intergenerational solidarity. In addition, education as an essential tool of social mobility was mentioned, along with the importance of monitoring and evaluation in youth policies.
