Empowering the African immigrant community in Albania

Over the past few months, a transformative journey has been unfolding within Albania's communities. The Youth Voice Network of Organisations (YVNO), supported by FOSTER, has been at the heart of this change, actively supporting African immigrants through innovative initiatives designed to foster integration and tackle the pressing challenges they face.

It started with a simple mission: to build trust. YVNO got involved with the community, working together to open real communication and build strong relationships. This effort became more than just a project, it turned into a lively platform where people can speak up, share experiences, and address their needs.

Moving forward, Youth Voice organized important meetings between the African community and key institutions like the International Organisation for Migration (IOM) and the Commissioner for Protection from Discrimination. These first-time meetings directly tackled crucial issues like legal status, employment problems, and experiences of discrimination. As a result, community representatives are now working closely with the Commissioner, and plans for a joint awareness campaign are underway. This led to close collaboration and plans for a joint awareness campaign. Bridges Beyond Borders amplified these efforts by sharing personal stories, a vlog with Dauda, a young African student, and a podcast with Pastor Prince, a community leader for 13 years, fostering empathy and understanding. These stories resonate deeply, fostering empathy and a stronger sense of community.

YVNO's commitment remains to empowering African immigrants, promoting inclusivity, and helping create a home away from home. As these initiatives continue to grow, they not only enrich the lives of the African community in Albania but also weave a more diverse and understanding social fabric for all.
