ProMo-Cymru's Creating Conversations Event on Digital Youth Work

ProMo-Cymru’s latest Creating Conversations webinar was held on 19th of May and focused on good practice in digital youth work across Wales. Three youth organisations spoke at the event, sharing their youth work challenges and successes during the pandemic.

Jonathan Gunter from Ministry Of Life shared how they successfully took Cardiff Music Conference online. Previously planned as a face-to-face event, they had to rethink how they could create a participative and engaging online experience. The event was a great success and was attended by over 500 people. They delivered 150 meals to young people's homes so that they could all share a meal together while watching the entertainment.

Natasha Gue from Llamau spoke about how they used gaming as a way to engage young people and fundraise for youth homelessness. Natasha shared that she knew nothing about gaming; however, she was soon educated by young people on the most popular games, platforms and terminology. She really believes in the potential of using gaming for youth engagement.

“We should be meeting young people in a space where they already feel comfortable and embrace youth culture.”

Eduardo Dijssule Pereira from Cardiff Youth Service spoke about how they engaged and trained a team of young creatives to design and create digital content for Cardiff Youth Service. When the pandemic hit, Cardiff Youth Service needed to get out vital information to young people, so they recruited a team of young content makers.

At the end of the event, youth organisations had an opportunity to network and share good practice. Over 30 youth organisations attended it. The following Creating Conversations will be on the 13th July. Contact arielle@promo.cymru for more information.
