Understanding experiences of minority beliefs on online communication platforms

This report, carried out in the UK, is a stand-alone research project examining the attitudes and experiences of individuals with minority beliefs about health protection, climate change, and the Russia/Ukraine conflict. Minority beliefs refer to views not widely held by the general population.

The study explores how these beliefs develop, spread, and affect those with them, emphasising media literacy's role in this process. Conducted to enhance understanding of the online formation of minority beliefs, the research also investigates the link between media literacy and these beliefs.

As Ofcom prepares to regulate online safety in the UK, the insights from this report will inform strategies to address disinformation and misinformation. Check it out now!
